Keurig K55 Single Serve Coffee Maker Review & Overview

Keurig K55 Single Serve Coffee Maker Overview

The Keurig K55 is a great single serve coffeemaker for the coffee drinker that just wants a good cup of coffee quickly, with little clean up, but with out a hefty price. This particular Keurig is a simple, straight forward design, but that fact is not a strike against it, its only real mission in life is to prepare quick and easy coffee, and the K55 does it well. However don’t let the word “simple”, mislead you, the K55 has a number of features that make it a strong entry in the single serve coffee market. Include with those features to the affordable price, and it is definitely one of my most recommended buys out of the Keurig series.

Key Features of The Keurig K55

There are a number of different single serve coffee makers, an unfathomable number of variations and models made by Keurig itself.

Finding the right machine for you means seeing which features stand out from the others and finding the ones that matter to you.

Water Reservoir & Mug Size Brew Options

One feature from the K55 is the ability added by Keurig to brew beverage sizes, of 6oz., 8oz., and 10oz. The 10oz ounce cup is considered a (small) travel mug size(7″ of clearance for travel mugs), however in this review I would consider 10 oz as a positive “feature” due to the fact the many other coffee makers in the same series allow you to brew up to 11.25oz.(such as Keurig’s B70 platinum, B60 Special Edition and B40 Elite) However the B55  does has a large removable 48oz water reservoir, that very ample for allowing you to brew more than 6 cups before refilling.

Auto Shut Off

The machine also has a programmable auto shut off feature that will cause the machine turn itself off after going idle. This feature is preset at 2 hours but can be programmed by the user as needed.

QuietBrew

A newer feature for Keurig is there QuietBrew Tech, which greatly cuts the noise that most other models make while brewing. This fact is one of the most often commented on improvements, almost all Keurig K55 reviews note how much quieter it is as compared to the rest of the Keurig family.

K-Cup Brewing

Although not solely a feature of the Keurig K55  coffee maker, the use of the k-cup for brewing is a strong feature for the machine. Because of its use of the k-cup, the machine is compatible with all the K-Cup pods varieties of coffees, tea, cocoas and even iced drinks. And more importantly being able to use the refillable K-Cup pods to use you own fresh self ground coffee if you wish. Brews in under a minute

User-Friendly Design

K-cups allow for brewing coffee with little cleaning and prep-time. You only have to insert the k-cup into the machine to brew. This means that there’s no loose grounds or a mess to clean.

Once you’ve found a single serve coffee maker with the features you want, all that’s left is how it looks. The Keurig K55 single serve is an aesthetically pleasing model, that has a modern look most would be happy display.

Brewing Temperature Options

Different teas, coffees, and iced drinks require different temperatures for brewing. Due to the large variety of brewing options for the Keurig K55, it’s important to be able to control what temperature to brew at – a feature Keurig did not overlook. Aside from affecting how certain coffees and teas brew, adjusting the temperature allows you to find the perfect flavor and taste for you.

Easy Cleaning

Since the Keurig K55 Single Serve Coffee Maker uses k-cups to package the coffee grinds, there’s very little clean up needed for the system. Most of the parts you would need to clean (drip tray and water reservoir) are removable making it very easy. Also, it includes a descale indicator( Descaling important part of cleaning your Keurig brewer.) to let you know when there’s been a large amount of scale build up. To clean the scale buildup, Keurig sells a product called “Dezcal Cleaner” to dissolve the lime scale.

4 Minute Start up – One Minuet Brew Time After Warm up

When you’re researching and reading reviews of single serves, there are a few features that are truly necessary – speed is one of them. How quickly and easily you can brew your coffee is important, otherwise you might as well use a French press.

The Keurig K55 Single Serve Coffee Maker takes 4 minutes to startup and warm water. Also, once started the system only takes 15 seconds to reheat the water.

Between the 4-minute startup and approximately 30-second brew time, it takes about 5 minutes to brew a fresh cup of coffee.
